Day 14: Spring Design of Your Choice, LAST DAY!

It's the last day! I had so much fun doing this challenge. I got to be creative and come up with all sorts of designs. I enjoyed it much more than the 31 Day Challenge. That thing stressed me out. 14 days is much more manageable.
My spring design is a chartreuse and blue ruffian with flowers! Are ruffian manicures still in? I don't know.... I saw it in my Nail It! magazine for spring so I guess they are still kinda in style. I did one for Halloween once with blood red and dark grey to make it look like my nails were being ripped off.......... It did look pretty cool.

Nail Polish Used:
Pure Ice "Wild Thing"
              "Celestial"

Acrylic Paints:
Folk Art "Brilliant Blue"
Americana "Citron Green"

Day 13: The Paper Gal- Newspaper Transfer

I have never done newspaper print nails, I shouldn't have waited so long, they are cool! I tried to make it look vintage with pretty muted flowers. I really like how it turned out! I didn't do such a good job around my cuticles though.... I have had this one for a few days and the urge to pick at it overcame me. Ugh.... I did cover up more newsprint than I wanted to but at least you can still see it in the background.

Nail Polish Used:
Markwins in a medium-dark nude
Sinful Colors "Snow Me White"

Acrylic Paints:
Folk Art "Pink"
Apple Barrel Colors "Kelly Green"
                                "Territorial Beige"

Day 12: May Flowers

I broke out my fimo slices for this one! I have been waiting to try them out since Christmas. They feel a lot different than I thought they would. I knew which flower I wanted to use, so I came up with the rest of my nails based on the colors in the flower. I had just seen a look by The Perfectly Polished Life and it is what inspired me to do the blue and silver French manicure. I then thought the dots would add a little something extra and pull the orange from the flower across the nails.

Nail Polish Used:
NYC "Skyline Blue"
Sinful Colors "Snow Me White"
Diamond Cosmetics "Glitter Lites"

Day 11: Eggs and Chicks

I think this was supposed to be a cutesy design with pretty Easter eggs and a fluffy chick, I decided to switch that up. I have the eggs but in a different form! Bacon and eggs. Muhahaha, I have breakfast on my nails! I posted on Facebook that I painted bacon eggs and I got a great response from one of my friends. "Eggs and Bacon Nails are the answer. How to best start a nail chewing habit is the question!!"

Nail Polish Used:

NYC "Wine Bar"
ELF "Nude"
Sinful Colors "Snow Me White
+ Americana "Saffron Yellow" -- I didn't feel like getting out colors to mix and this was sitting right in front of me!

Day 9: Fresh Cut Grass

This is supposed to be very light, and pretty. It doesn't really scream grass but it still captures that look!
It has been super cold here this week. It snowed today for crying out loud!! Snow! In April! In Kansas! Who heard of such a thing. At least it didn't stick for more than an hour! I have a feeling we are going to go from winter right into the heat of summer. Yippee....

Nail Polish Used:
NYC "High Line Green"
Avon "Olive Green"
Diamond Cosmetics in lime
Wet n Wild "Hallucinate"

On a side note, I got a new top coat! Seche Vite was on sale at Sally's. I had to get it, I have heard so many good things. It is great! It dries my nail polish very quick and I do not have creases on my polish in the morning!!!!!

Day 8: Matte Magic

Hey look! More vintage roses!! HAHA!! I said I would do some more and indeed I have. This is supposed to be vintage rose wallpaper. My matte topcoat is dead and I haven't been able to find it or anything like it in stock at Walmart. That means I had to find a new way! I was going to try the corn starch method. I was also thinking about making it into a tutorial to put on here buuuut, it  didn't work out so well for me. A few weeks ago I discovered a new way, use steam!
Here is how I did it! I decided I would make some tea so I microwaved a mug of water for two minutes to get it hot enough for a good steam. I then took topcoat and painted over my nails quickly. While the polish was still very wet I held it over the mug for 20+ seconds. Viola! Perfect matte nails.

Nail Polish Used:
Sinful Colors "Snow Me White"
                     "Flower Girl"
Diamond Cosmetics in frosty pink, red, and lime green

Day 7: Glitter Tips

Prom is happening all around! That was my inspiration for this!! It is so simple and elegant, I think it would go great with almost all dress colors. It is not overpowering and very beautiful. I may come back to this look some day!

Nail Polish Used:
Nicole "You Can!"
Pure Ice "Play Time"

Day 6: Ombre

I went with happy spring colors from pink to green. I had a friend tell me today it kinda looked like a watermelon! Once she said that, it made perfect sense! I subconsciously made a watermelon..... I also just really like the combination of pink and green. I tried to rush through this, I should have just taken my time but nooo, I had to get it done. The results are bubbles and some strange ripples. I'll say it gives an interesting watermelon like texture!! I used my fan brush to do this. The dark green stained my brush. Dang it!

Nail Polish Used:
Avon "Blushing Star"
         "Olive Green"
Pure Ice "Platinum"
              "First Love"
Nicole "Make Mine Lime"

Day 4: April Showers

This April rain scene had some interesting things happen to it...... The yellow umbrella slid down my nail last night so it is all bunched up and weird. I didn't want to fix it because I will be taking it off after I write this post!! I figured you would get what I was trying to do!! The raindrops coming from nowhere are watering the grass which is trying to grow. Not my best design plan ever but I'll go with it!

Nail Polish Used:
Wet n Wild "Rain Check"
Sinful Colors "Why Not"
Diamond Cosmetics in green, bold yellow, black, and brown
Sally Hansen "Mint Sorbet"

Day 3: Glitter Sammy

Glitter sammy, aka. glitter sandwich or jelly sandwich, is a sheer polish then glitter then topped again with sheer until you like the way it looks! I broke out a pink glitter I have never used before. It is bright and cheery, perfect for spring.
I found out this trick bloggers use when they change thier nails everyday: start with a coat of Elmer's White Glue so it is easy to take the polish off quick. It works!! I am happy I did it with this glitter look. It would have been a pain in the butt to take off. I did three layers of the sheer-glitter-sheer.

Nail Polish Used:
Nicole "Enchantress"
Sinful Colors "Pinky Glitter"

11 QUESTIONS FROM A POLISHED PRANCE

1. Matte or gloss?

I really love gloss but I go for matte on occasion. I like using a matte topcoat for an accent.

2. Blue or pink?
Blue. Blue is one of my favorite colors! There are so many things you can do with it in nail art and just on its own.

3. Glitter or Flakey?
Glitter. I sometimes have trouble with flakey polish and trying to get it out of the bottle. I have many, many glitters. I've been into making a glitter French tip and a full glitter accent nail.

4. OPI or China Glaze?
I only have two bottles of China Glaze and both were given to me as gifts. Sooo I guess I will go for China Glaze!

5. Creme or shimmer?
I could go either way on this one, but shimmer wins it. I love the depth it can give to a nail polish. It may be a green polish but with shimmer you can get many other colors.

6. Rhinestones or studs?
I don't know what I would do without my rhinestones!!! I have several sizes and colors. My favorite are these super tiny ones I got for Christmas. They came in all sorts of colors and in a nice case.

7. Free hand art or stamping?
Free hand, that is the way I do all of my nail art. I have never really had the need or want to get a stamping kit. I'll just stick to drawing!

8. Red or green?
Green is my other favorite color. I love cool colors, I have many different types of blues and greens.

9. Helmer or other storage?
My storage isn't too fancy. All of my boxes are Sterilite from Walmart and two are from a garage sale!

10. Indies or commercial brands?
I have not been able to get ahold of any Indie brands but I love the variety of colors people can come up with. I am going to got with commercial because that is all I have....

Day 2: Ladybugs

For day two in the April Nail Art Challenge, I have ladybugs! On my ring finger I have a blob impersonating a  ladybug and on my other fingers I have spotted ladybug patterns! I think my ladybug would have turned out better I had used a lighter red. They are such happy little bugs eating aphids and decorating green leaves! Just don't mistake the Asian Lady Beetle for them, they are mean and not the same.
