NOTD: Kansas FFA Convention Cow Nails!

Tomorrow starts the 85th Kansas FFA State Convention! Of course, I had to do some more FFA nails!

Our current state officers! Shout out to Kayla,  my nail polish friend!

Here are my links to my other FFA nail art ideas: National FFA Week
                                                                                FFA and 4-H
                                                                                FFA
                                                                                Blue and Gold Elegant
                                                                                My FFA Officer Team

I call these cows with a twist! It is adorable cow print with FFA colors as the accent nail. I would like to thank my friend Sarah who gave me the idea!! On my other hand I wrote out KS FFA, not much going on with it, it is just a feat to write the letters! My yellow nail polish crapped out so I had to use acrylic paint.

Wet n Wild "Ebony Hates Chris"
                   "The Wonder Yellows"
Nicole "Pretty City Rose"

NOTD: Memorial Day Poppies

Poppies are the flower chosen to remember those lost to war. The flower is something special for Memorial Day. Here is the poem that help start the tradition of wearing a poppy as a tribute to the fallen.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lt. Col. John McCrae

Here are my poppies. I even have a postcard. :))

NOTD: Memorial Day Patriotic

It's Memorial Day weekend! I did two designs for the weekend. This is inspired by the American Flag, it would work for the 4th of July as well! It is super simple and very cute. I didn't notice until I was editing my pictures that the star on my ring finger came off......... haha. I just added it again to make it look right.

NOTD: Palm Trees in the Sunset

Here is my second kickstart summer look. Palm trees in a sunset. If I do something like this again, I think I will only put the trees on the thumb and ring. It is a little much on all five fingers! For the gradient background I used the sponge technique, pretty easy! Next time I would also use a thinner brush. These were also inspired by some postcards!

Nail Polish Used:
Sinful Colors "Snow Me White"
Pure Ice "Bite Me!"
              "Hot Tamale"
Revlon "Ocean Breeze" -- It is scented! Not only did it have the right color, it added to the design with the                      "ocean" smell.

+ Americana "Ebony"

Random: Nail Books and Magazines

The Half-Price Bookstore in my city is closing down. :(  They are having a 20% off sale so I was browsing my usual book sections. For some reason I have never looks at the fashion section but when I did, BOOM nail polish book. Hot diggity dog! You do not know how excited I was, I think I jumped! It was $5.99 and the cover price was $29.95. What a deal! I will describe it like an excellent and beautiful textbook. It literally has everything in it! It has instruction on how to give arm and leg massage, manicures, pedicures, nail health, anatomy of the hand and foot, treatments, equipment, history, fashion.... EVERYTHING!

A couple of weeks ago, I had a girl in one of my classes give me pages of a magazine on nail art! I have only talked to her a few times, so I was surprised when she pulled out these three pages. One of the classes we had together was Humanities and in that class, we discussed these artists. She thought they were neat and decided to give them to me! Thanks Tara!

Finally, the new Nail It! magazine!!! I ordered a mail subscription so now I don't have to rush to the grocery store on the day it comes out. Here are some of my favorite stories.

NOTD: Florida Flamingos

It's summer vacation time!!! To kick off my summer, I did a couple of designs. I call these my derpy flamingos. Haha! I have a huge collection of postcards so I went to them to figure out my inspiration. Speaking of postcards, I created a new blog about them! It is called Postcards, Many Postcards. Here is the link: postcardsmanypostcards.blogspot.com .

To make that light pinky green color, I layered the Sally Hansen HD with the Pure Ice. I am pleased with how it came out!
I used two of the loose glitters I got for Christmas!

Nail polish used:
Sally Hansen "Resolution"
Pure Ice "First Love"
Diamond Cosmetics in frosty pink
Sinful Colors "Snow Me White"
+ Americana "Ebony"

NOTD: Blue with Mod Dots

This is a very modern and fun design. The dots are supposed to look like a kind of gradient. I thought these were some interesting colors to use, but all together they look cool! The look a bit like fish scales.
I have three blues that look like this Sally Hansen blue, one I bought and the other two were gifts from friends. I am thinking about doing a comparison post to show how similar they are and show which one is the better deal!

Nail Polish Used:
Sally Hansen "Blue Me Away!"
Nicole "A Lit-Teal Bit of Love"
Wet n Wild "Ebony Hates Chris"
E.L.F medium nude
Pure Ice "Twinkle"
Sinful Colors "Snow Me White"

my pinky got smudged so I just cut it out, haha

NOTD: Red and White Swirl Flower

This is my first time doing a one stroke flower and marbling like this! To do the marble, I dotted several dots of white acrylic paint then put a few dots of red acrylic paint. I then took my small detailing brush and swirled them around to make it look like a cool marble. To make a one stroke flower, I used my chisel brush and dipped half the brush in white and the other half in the red. I then carefully pushed and pulled it to make the flower.

To get a better idea, here is the video I used to make this look. It is by Love4Nails, one of my favorite nail artists.

Nail Polish Used:
Pure Ice "Iced Merlot"
              "Beware"

Acrylic Paints:
Americana "White Wash"
                 "Cranberry Wine"

NOTD: Neon Splatter

This sure was messy! I put down a plastic bag on top of the desk I work at so nail polish wouldn't get everywhere! Good thinking. I also discovered something I knew but at the time I did this, I wasn't thinking. Don't EVER put nail polish thinner on a styrofoam plate. It bubbles and melts.......

All you have to do is mix a few drops of nail polish with thinner together till it is thin enough to splatter on nails. Take the nail polish brush and gently tap on it to get the drops. You should tape around your nails or use Vaseline to make cleanup easy. As I said, this gets messy!!

Nail Polish Used:
E.L.F "Neon Pink"
          "Neon Green"
          dark purple
Pure Ice "Hot Tamale"
Sinful Colors "Me First"
Sally Hansen "Blue Me Away!"
